Wet n Wild Silent Treatment Trio
This is another trio from my friend Judi. Please have a look at her blog, it is very good!
If you haven’t already, please also look at my previous post, about the Wet n Wild Sweet as Candy trio too.
The Silent Treatment trio consists of: one pink shimmery (satin) browbone color, a dark brown with glitter crease colour and a nice (satin) taupe for the eyelid. The eyelid color reminds me of MAC’s satin taupe, but it is more gray than MAC.
Same as with the other trio, I was very impressed with the quality of the shadows. They blend very nicely, and this particular set can be used to do a nice smoky eye too.
I am still working on my swatch photo taking skills, but I hope you enjoy these:

My new make up budget
After some consideration, I decided that I need to set myself a make up budget.
Right now, the amount of money I spend every month varies, but I have a feeling it is slightly higher than it should be. So having a fixed budget would be best.
One of the people who inspired me to do this, is April from Youtube.
Please go and see her channel and her blog. She is doing a very good job at using up products, and most recently has set herself up a spending limit.
I am bringing her idea a little further, and set myself the following new “purchase policy”:
- A month = the period between my pay dates. e.g. Month #1 is starting on 25th of May and ending on the 26th of June 2012.
- Each month I will set a budget depending on my expenses that month.
- The budget for each month cannot be more than 100£.
- The exception months are: October, December, January when I can spend up to £200.
- Each month I will withdraw the money in cash, and keep it in a separate purse.
- The money is transferable between months, what is in the purse already, stays in the purse.
- If I spend more than the set budget, I’m going to subtract from next month’s budget. (e.g. I overspent by 20£ – next month my maximum budget allowed will be be 80£ instead of 100£).
- The budget applies to make up, including SPF, nail polish and make up remover. “Hybrid” make up products are still included (e.g. primer with SPF, tinted moisturizer, BB cream). Brushes are included too!
- Excluded are: toiletries, perfume, skin care, hair care.
Now it is in writing on my blog and also on my channel, so I have to do it!
Wish me luck!
Wet n Wild Sweet as Candy Trio

Wet n Wild Sweet as Candy
I was very surprised to discover how good these shadows are. They are creamy, easy to apply, pretty pigmented and, with primer they don’t crease or fade.
Also, I like how they have instructions on where to apply the shadows.
The Sweet as Candy Trio has one pink eyelid color, one dark (neutral brown) crease color and one white highlight color, all satin finish. They are the perfect combination for easy morning make up!
But I will let the pictures tell the story!

Because my skin is very white, and the colors light, there is not contrast and the colors seem “washed out” in the photos.
On the lids, my skin is darker so this does not happen!
My first Youtube Swap!
I did a swap with Judi who lives in the US. She kindly offered to send me some Wet n Wild goodies, so I thought a swap would be a great idea.
I have heard so much about Wet n Wild but never owned anything from them.
In exchange, I sent Judi some “stars” from our UK high street.
Please check out Judi’s Youtube channel and blog! I love both of them and I always look forward to her posts!

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H
I bought the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H foundation a few months ago, and it has been my go to foundation most of this time.
My skin:
My skin is normal, but with lots of acne scaring and skin redness, especially on the cheeks. I also have large pores in that area.
Price and where is it sold:
It retails for 26£, at any Lancome counter. They have 18 shades available: light to dark, both yellow and pink undertones.
Claims:
Lancôme’s Teint Idole Ultra 24H offers more long-wear and comfort than any other foundation.
Teint Idole Ultra 24H remains retouch-free, providing a flawless looking, even complexion with a velvety-smooth, shine-free finish.
In perfect affinity with the skin, Teint Idole Ultra 24h is irresistibly comfortable. Its new, blendable and fresh texture is divine and leaves the complexion feeling smooth, velvety and matte with no powdery effect.
Packaging
The outer packaging is the standard Lancome “mirror” package. The foundation is in a bottle with pump dispenser. The transparent bottle looks like glass, I assume it is made of plastic.
You get 30 ml of product.
Texture and application:
Liquid foundation. It is light, easy to blend, not runny.
I found that it can oxidize a little on me, but it doesn’t look orange. If anything it gives some color to my really light skin!
Coverage and wear:
The coverage is medium. It cannot be built to high coverage. If you have problem areas, I suggest adding up more foundation only to that area, or targeting the area with a concealer.
The claim is that this foundation is matte, but on my skin I get a natural finish.
For me, the foundation wears all day. I usually have the foundation on for 10 to 12 hours before I take my make up off. In this time it doesn’t move, my skin redness doesn’t start to show through, it looks the same as in the morning when I applied it.
What I like:
The coverage it gives, the light texture, the long wear, the natural finish.
What I don’t like:
It contains alcohol, an ingredient known to irritate the skin. Luckily this does not happen to me. It also has a pretty heavy fragrance.
If you have sensitive skin and/or oily skin and/or acne I recommend you choose another foundation.

Boots Clearance / Weekend Trip
This weekend I went to Italy for a short break (three days) with my boyfriend.
We left London at 6:30 AM, on Saturday morning and we got back at 11:30 PM on Monday night.
We had only hand luggage with us, so this time I had to really bring down the number of make up and skin care items. (See here what I packed last time for 4 days).
I already had in my mind a virtual list of what to take, including my Naked Palette and some skin care samples.
But on Friday, in my lunch break at Boots I see these on clearance:

Boots on clearance items
I bought all of these for 6£:
- No7 Age Defence Cleansing Balm (30 ml)
- No7 Time Resisting Day cream (15ml)
- No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Beauty Serum (5ml)
- No7 (for men) Protect & Perfect Moisturising Eye cream (3ml)
- No7 extreme length mascara (4.5 ml)
- No7 Smoky Rose Quad
- No7 High Shine lip gloss in Smile (8ml)
- No7 40 Khaki Stay Perfect shadow (1.5 g)
Additionally I brought with me:

Additional make up
- Eco tools blush brush
- MAC 217 brush: As you know this is my essential eye brush
- E.l.f Bamboo Blending Eye Brush
- Laura Mercier cheek brush and Laura Mercier double ended brush: These came with a set I bought, they are really useful for traveling!
- Shu Uemura Natural 18 foundation brush
- Sleek blush in pixie pin
- Clinique Even Better make up foundation: I get along really well with this foundation lately, and it is very easy to blend.
- Benefit high beam: I have the small one, and thought it wouldn’t hurt to have it with me!
- Benefit Erase Paste and Clinique Airbrush concealer: the erase paste is a bit too dark for me, so I use it as a “base” to cover the dark circles than I brighten the area with the airbrush concealer
- One black eye liner pencil (Laura Mercier) and one white pencil (2True)
- Revlon ColorStay 12Hour Eye Shadow in 05 Blushed Wines: I don’t really like this palette, but I brought it for extra options.
It might seem a lot but I fitted all the brushes and make up compacts into the pouch neatly. The skin care items and foundation went to a standard airport clear bag. The final result was something like this:

That’s all!
And that was it!
For three days it was exactly what I needed, plus at the airport I got free samples of Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum.
Finally, some images from Italy (sorry for the quality of some):

PS: I’ve been good and I didn’t shop too much!
How was your weekend?
Top 5 Most Used – April 2012

Top 5 Most Used Products in April
I already posted a video for this on Youtube, sorry that I’m so late on the blog!
It’s just that I wanted to take some decent photos for you!
This month I started using more eyeshadow, however no eyeshadows made the list.
Here are the products:
- Shu Uemura UV under base mousse SPF 30: As you all know I’m a big Shu Uemura fan. I love this under base mousse as a primer and it has an SPF 30 in the same time. It is easy to use and to blend on the skin.
- Clinique Even Better Foundation: I used this foundation a lot in April. It is light and easy to blend, medium coverage which is perfect at the moment for me. I also want to finish it so that I can try something new!
- Clinique Airbrush Concealer This is my go to concealer, I don’t leave the house without it.
- Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Mystic Mauve: I like this lip gloss because it is shinny but not glittery and looks natural on the lips. I used it almost every morning before going out.
- L’Oreal Caresse in Sweet Berry (number 103): As you know, I love the L’Oreal Caresse lipsticks. I used this one a lot in April.
What did you like the most in April?

Youtube inspired purchases

My Youtube inspired purchases
I received this tag from Gina (username Citrushearted) – on Youtube.
Youtube has become a huge influence in many people’s purchasing decisions. The same stands for blogs, Twitter, Pinterest etc.
My opinion is that companies still do not use the full potential of these tools. But I’m not a specialist, so I cannot comment too much on this.
When I started being interested in make up, Youtube was the number one place I went. Slowly, I learned more about techniques, types of brushes, products everyone recommends. If you see a products recommended so many times, you will check it out.
Because I had to build up my make up collection, last year, many of the purchases I made were influenced by Youtube. Not all of them, because I did extra research on blogs, and there were occasional impulse buys too.
Now that I’m older and wiser (well not that much older or wiser), most of the time I can judge the quality of a product by myself. That doesn’t mean that what I see on the web doesn’t influence me. Most of the times, I check the things I hear a lot about.
So my philosophy is simple: buy what I need, check the raved about products, test to see if they suit me and buy only if I’m really happy with what I see.
Finally, here are my Youtube inspired purchases:
Products shown:
- Garnier roll on concealer
- MUA shadows
- Laura Mercier silk creme foundation
- Sleek blushes (Pixie Pink and Suede)
- Sleek face contour kit (light)
- Vichy Dermablend stick foundation
- MAC 217 brush
- MAC Fix+
- MAC eyeshadows: expensive pink, satin taupe, satellite dreams, humid
- NARS Orgasm
- Naked palette
- Shu Uemura lash curlers

Make up for acne
One of the reasons I started to be interested in make up was that I wanted to hide my acne.
Slowly, slowly I read a lot of information about acne, products for acne, cosmetic ingredients and make up I could use. So last year, I replaced all the products I used with more acne friendly ones.

I’m going to show you the products I used, they are not the only ones suitable for acne, but this is what worked for me.
1) Skincare
Last year, I slowly replaced all my skin care items. I started to pay more attention to cosmetic ingredients, and I learned about irritants and started to avoid them.
Be aware that if products are advertised as “oil free”, “non comedogeninc” or anything like that there is no guarantee it’s going to be good for your skin. Do your research before you buy.
Make sure you use a good moisturizer, even if you have acne. Your skin still needs to be hydrated!
2)SPF

One thing that I learned only last year is that SPF is essential and it has to be worn every day (rain, shine, clouds – no matter what).
There are two important reasons for this: UV rays damage the skin and speed up the aging process. The second reason is that UV rays aggravate acne.
You can either buy a moisturizer with SPF and apply it as part of your skin care routine, or you can get a primer with SPF. I prefer the second option, but that is only personal choice.
I used the Clinique City Block SPF 40 for this. It also acts as a primer, so I could skip a step.
3)Foundation

I went for a medium coverage light foundation. There are many, many options on the market, so make sure you try out as many as you can before you buy.
I do not like “fighting” with the foundation while I apply it, so I went for a liquid medium coverage foundation.
The foundation I chose was the Clinique Even Better foundation.
4)Concealer

This is they key of make up for acne. Once you have applied the base – the foundation, the best way to hide those imperfections is to go over with concealer over them.
I used the heavy coverage Vichy Dermabled stick foundation for this.
5)Setting powder

As setting powder I used the Clinique Redness Solution loose powder. I chose this one because I wanted to cancel out skin redness.
6)Touch ups:

Because I had really oily skin I had to touch up every 3-4 hours or more. I used the Superdrug blotting papers and the Maybelline Dream Matte compact powder.
Finally, here’s me talking about all of these:
