My 2012 Top 10 Best Buys

Happy New Year 2013!

I didn’t post on the blog for a while, but I keep posting videos on Youtube so make sure you are subscribed to my channel!

These are my 2012 best buys. The ranking is very subjective and personal. Out of everything I bought in 2012 I think these are the best. The ranking is based on the quality of the product and how much I actually used the product.

10 – Lancome L’Absolu Nu lipstick number 102 this lipstick was my first red lipstick. It’s a sheer texture very easy to wear and to build intensity, if you want to. For a first red lipstick, I couldn’t have chosen any better.

9 – MAC Expensive Pink eyeshadow this eyeshadow is a beautiful every day color. It is more than a neutral, but very work friendly.

8 – MAC Extra Dimension Modern Pewter I love everything about this eyeshadow. The color, the formula, the packaging, and again it is a very work friendly everyday color.

7 – L’Oreal Infailible eyeshadows in Magnetic Coral Naughty Strawberry everyone knows these are dupes for Aramani Eyes to Kill. I don’t own the Armani version, but I don’t need to. The formula is beautiful, long lasting, and these two colors were all I wore last summer.

6 – Guerlain Pucci collection brush need I say more than Guerlain Pucci collection? The brush comes in a beautiful Pucci bag that is worth all the money. It’s not the best bronzing brush in the world, but beautiful anyway!

5 – Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Lip Balm in 001 Honey this quickly became one of my favorite lip products. I carry it in my handbag and reapply without even looking in the mirror. Who needs more?

4 – L’Oreal Caresse lipsticks I think these are the best lipsticks that came out in 2012. They are moisturizing, sheer but buildable, just ideal for spring – summer. The color selection is beautiful as well.

3 – Guerlain Terracota 4 Seasons bronzer in 01 Blondes this is my “holy grail” bronzer. I don’t need to try any other bronzer again.

2 – Shu Uemura UV underbase never leave the house without SPF on! This mousse formula is very easy to apply, non sticky and has SPF 30.

1 – Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24h foundation so far, this is the best foundation I ever owned. It’s long lasting, beautiful finish, medium coverage. The only downside is that it has a bit of fragrance and alcohol so be careful if your skin is sensitive. My skin didn’t react, although it is very sensitive.

This is it! My top 10 best buys of 2012? What are yours?

My first FOTW video

Top 5 Most Used – July 2012

Hi everyone!

I know I have been away from the blog for a long time.
At the moment I will not be able to post proper posts or reviews on the blog, but I will be adding my Youtube videos.
Let’s start with my most used items in July. They are all great products, hope you enjoy!

Boots Clearance / Weekend Trip

This weekend I went to Italy for a short break (three days) with my boyfriend.
We left London at 6:30 AM, on Saturday morning and we got back at 11:30 PM on Monday night.

We had only hand luggage with us, so this time I had to really bring down the number of make up and skin care items. (See here what I packed last time for 4 days).

I already had in my mind a virtual list of what to take, including my Naked Palette and some skin care samples.
But on Friday, in my lunch break at Boots I see these on clearance:

Boots on clearance items

I bought all of these for 6£:

  • No7 Age Defence Cleansing Balm (30 ml)
  • No7 Time Resisting Day cream (15ml)
  • No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Beauty Serum (5ml)
  • No7 (for men) Protect & Perfect Moisturising Eye cream (3ml)
  • No7 extreme length mascara (4.5 ml)
  • No7 Smoky Rose Quad
  • No7 High Shine lip gloss in Smile (8ml)
  • No7 40 Khaki Stay Perfect shadow (1.5 g)

Additionally I brought with me:

Additional make up

It might seem a lot but I fitted all the brushes and make up compacts into the pouch neatly. The skin care items and foundation went to a standard airport clear bag. The final result was something like this:

That’s all!

And that was it!

For three days it was exactly what I needed, plus at the airport I got free samples of Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum.

Finally, some images from Italy (sorry for the quality of some):

The shoes!

The chocolate

Street market

The buildings…

PS: I’ve been good and I didn’t shop too much!
How was your weekend?

MAC Extra Dimension

I went to buy some gifts a few days ago, and of course, I couldn’t stop myself going into the MAC store.

They had the Extra Dimension new shadows in, and initially, I wasn’t sure if I’d buy them.
I tested a few and I thought they are really pretty but couldn’t decide. But then, I saw the beautiful Blue Orbit and couldn’t stop myself!
It’s called blue orbit, but actually it’s a more purple pastel (almost) color, that looks great on dark eyes. It has a nice shimmer and very pretty reflexions.
To balance it out, I bought Modern Pewter as well, which is very pretty too!

The shadows are a very nice soft liquid to powder formula, copying the Estee Lauder gelees. Since I bought them I wore them a few times, and they lasted for at least 4-6 hours before starting to show some wear and tear. With a primer, I think they can last all day long.
The packaging is sturdy and closes up well. I dropped them on the ground a few times and there is no sign of breakage or fall out so far!

The shadows are £16.50 but are larger sized than the normal ones. They are 2 grams each, with larger packaging as well.

The other colors looked really pretty, and the highlighter is very on my to try list. Check them out online in the MAC store.

See my swatches below:

It seems that I have a very strong accent, I had no idea until I recorded myself!
Please let me know if you want more videos like this.

Did you try these shadows? What did you think?

Light Packing

I’m going away for the amazingly long time of 3 days!

So for 3 days I should be packing light, right? Well… I tried!

Make up:
The bag is from the Laura Mercier Day to Night collection, very good for traveling. But the Naked palette does not fit it.

  • NYX 5 Color Shadow – The Caribbean Collection I dream
  • Laura Mercier Day to Night Palette: I’m not a big fan of the shadows but I like the blusher.
  • NARS Orgasm blush
  • Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H: I became a big fan of this foundation. I alternate using it, but on the days I’m not using it I feel very weird.
  • Clinique Airbrush concealer
  • Clinique City Block Sheer SPF 25: I absolutely need to use sun protection, it is also good as a make up base.

The brushes:

  • Shu Uemura Foundation brush
  • Laura Mercier check brush
  • Laura Mercier double ended eye brush
  • MAC 217
  • Urban Decay Shadow brush

Small “cheating” make up bag to go in by bag

  • Clinique deep comfort hand cream
  • Clinique chubby stick
  • Nivea pearly shine lip balm
  • Clinique Vitamin C lip smoothie
  • Lancome lipstick
  • Dior Diorissimo sample
  • Small mirror

And last but not least the cosmetic bag!
Don’t ask me what it is in there! Yes, everything is absolutely essential to take with me.
I hope you agree with me!

Top 5 most used – February 2012

Happy Spring everyone!
With February gone, we can look forward to the nice improving weather and increasing daylight!

February was a busy month for me, so many days I didn’t apply too much make up. Every day I made sure that I have a good base, and if I had time, I applied some “extras” too.

Here are the products I used the most:

Top 5 February

Top 5 February

It’s a lot of pink, and I assure you, it’s not intended.

  • Nivea pearly shine lip balm: I used it every night before going to bed and in the morning before leaving the house. (Who has time to put on lipstick in the morning?) It is tinted and pearly but not very moisturizing.
  • Nars Orgasm blush: I used this blush almost every day in February. When I bought it, I was expecting maybe a little more with all the hype around it. In time, I just started to like it more and more. It is pigmented enough for me, and an easy option for work.
  • Guerlain Meteorites Cruel Gardenia: this is definitely my purchase of the month too! Since I bought it, I wore it almost every day. It’s just beautiful!
  • MAC expensive pink shadow: this shadow looks beautiful on the eye. It just brings out my eye colour, and it is very easy to use and apply.
  • MAC Fix+: When I bought it, it was very difficult for me to remember to use after applying my make up. Now it is part of my daily routine. I was a bit skeptical if it really helps, but it does. I still don’t understand how it can work, but when I use it my make up lasts longer.

What were the products you used most in February?

Brushes of the week (4)

Brushes of the week - click on image to enlarge

This week it’s back to full make up!

The brushes I used are:

  • Shu Uemura foundation brush: still my favorite foundation brush.
  • E.l.f. studio stippling brush
  • Laura Mercier blush brush: I’m getting use to it now, maybe I won’t be looking for another blush brush after all.
  • Space.NK contour brush: I’m still not convinced by this brush
  • Superdrug face brush
  • MAC 217
  • Urban Decay shadow brush
  • E.l.f blending eye brush
  • Laura Mercier duo brush: I like the blending end of the brush, less the other end.
  • Eco tools eyeliner brush

Have a nice Sunday everyone!

Brushes of the week

After cleaning my brushes (as I do every week), I thought I could keep track of what brushes I use most, and post them on the blog.

Brushes are one of the most difficult items to buy. They usually are expensive, so they are a major investment in our make up collection. Without the right brush, there’s no point in having good make up products.

From now on, on a weekly basis, I want to look back at what brushes I used and why.

Here is the round-up of all brushes I used this week:

  • Shu Uemura Natural 18 brush: This is probably my favorite brush. I used it to apply foundation almost every day.
  • E.l.f Studio Stippling Brush: for a more “airbrushed” finish, I use this brush. It is an amazing good quality brush for the price. It is not the most dense stippling brush in the world, but it’s worth every penny of the £3.50 price tag. I cannot justify buying the MAC equivalent, as this brush is very good.
  • Supedrug kabuki brush: this week I used it to apply highlighter on the forehead.
  • Space NK cheek contour brush: I used it for contour, and highlight on the cheekbone area. I bought my brush in the 50% sale, I’m not impressed with the quality of this brush. The bristles, even though they are goat hair, are not as soft as I expected.
  • Laura Mercier cheek colour brush: as the name suggests, I used it for blush. My brush was part of the “day to night” set. The only link I could find for the brush is this one. If the brush I have retails at £39, it’s definitely not worth that much money.
  • E.l.f bamboo blending brush: again, an excellent value for money brush. This week, I used it mostly to blend in under eye concealer.
  • MAC 217: This brush doesn’t need any explanations. I used it to apply all my eye make up (highlight, base, crease and finally blending). Yes, it’s a big “mistake” to use the same brush for different eye shadows, but I had absolutely no time in the morning.
  • Urban decay eye shader brush: this brush came with the Naked palette. I don’t remember what I used it for this week, but it was dirty so I used it for something.
  • Ecotools angled eyeliner brush: I am really trying to use it every day, but I’m very bad with eyeliner. It is a decent value for money brush.

And the tools I used:

What was your favorite brush this week?
