Products to use up in 2013

Have a quick look on Youtube, and you can see a huge shift in attitudes.

There are less and less haul videos, and more (New Year inspired?) resolutions to use more of what you already have.

Project 10 pan, Make out 2013, I’m a beauty hoarder, and why not, the Nail Polish Lottery club are all here to save us.

2011 and 2012 were big shopping years for me. I have a feeling this is going to change in 2013. My collection is just the right size now, so it is time I should start enjoying it.

Inspired by the Youtube “Products to use up in 2013” videos, I made my list as well. You can watch it here:

On my list for 2013 you’ll mostly find products I really, really love. Almost all of these are star products for me:

  • Lancome Teint Idole foundation
  • No7 Beautiful Skin BB Cream
  • Revlon – Pink in the afternoon lipstick
  • L’Oreal Caresse – Cheeky Magenta
  • Laura Mercier lip glace – Pink tule
  • Revlon Just Bitten Kissable lip balm – 01 honey
  • Eyeshadow I’d like to see pan on one of these eyeshadows: MAC satin taupe, L’Oreal Infailible eyeshadows
  • MAC paint pot in soft ochre
  • NARS Orgasm blush
  • Various perfume samples and full size Thierry Mugler Alien

What do you think? How many will I be able to use up by end of 2013?

Mail from Judi & Space NK haul

This is just a very quick post about a package I got in the mail from my friend Judi. She sent me some wonderful things that I will be using a lot.

If you are not subscribed to her channel already, it’s definitely worth checking out. She is the sweetest person on Youtube and my “make up dealer” from across the pond. Also, she has a great blog where she talks a lot about nail polish!

In my video, I’m also showing my Space NK Boxing Day haul. I went a little crazy with the spending, but I got some great bargains. You can still check their sale here, there are a few things left.

Enjoy watching and let me know how your week has been! Have you bought anything interesting lately?

List of products shown:
Estee Lauder nail polish: Enchanted garnet, Berry hot
Sephora + Pantone Universe nail polish: Evergreen
Bare Minerals: The Afterparty quad

My 2012 Top 10 Best Buys

Happy New Year 2013!

I didn’t post on the blog for a while, but I keep posting videos on Youtube so make sure you are subscribed to my channel!

These are my 2012 best buys. The ranking is very subjective and personal. Out of everything I bought in 2012 I think these are the best. The ranking is based on the quality of the product and how much I actually used the product.

10 – Lancome L’Absolu Nu lipstick number 102 this lipstick was my first red lipstick. It’s a sheer texture very easy to wear and to build intensity, if you want to. For a first red lipstick, I couldn’t have chosen any better.

9 – MAC Expensive Pink eyeshadow this eyeshadow is a beautiful every day color. It is more than a neutral, but very work friendly.

8 – MAC Extra Dimension Modern Pewter I love everything about this eyeshadow. The color, the formula, the packaging, and again it is a very work friendly everyday color.

7 – L’Oreal Infailible eyeshadows in Magnetic Coral Naughty Strawberry everyone knows these are dupes for Aramani Eyes to Kill. I don’t own the Armani version, but I don’t need to. The formula is beautiful, long lasting, and these two colors were all I wore last summer.

6 – Guerlain Pucci collection brush need I say more than Guerlain Pucci collection? The brush comes in a beautiful Pucci bag that is worth all the money. It’s not the best bronzing brush in the world, but beautiful anyway!

5 – Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Lip Balm in 001 Honey this quickly became one of my favorite lip products. I carry it in my handbag and reapply without even looking in the mirror. Who needs more?

4 – L’Oreal Caresse lipsticks I think these are the best lipsticks that came out in 2012. They are moisturizing, sheer but buildable, just ideal for spring – summer. The color selection is beautiful as well.

3 – Guerlain Terracota 4 Seasons bronzer in 01 Blondes this is my “holy grail” bronzer. I don’t need to try any other bronzer again.

2 – Shu Uemura UV underbase never leave the house without SPF on! This mousse formula is very easy to apply, non sticky and has SPF 30.

1 – Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24h foundation so far, this is the best foundation I ever owned. It’s long lasting, beautiful finish, medium coverage. The only downside is that it has a bit of fragrance and alcohol so be careful if your skin is sensitive. My skin didn’t react, although it is very sensitive.

This is it! My top 10 best buys of 2012? What are yours?

Shopping time!

I went shopping last week and here are the results. Enjoy!

Favorite jewelery and memories

[Warning: long, picture heavy post ahead]

Men joke all the time about women and jewelery. Apparently all women like shiny colorful things. That may be true, but there is a lot more to jewelery than being shiny or even the actual money value.

Some of us may collect it for value, but lots of us collect it for the memories.

I’m the second category. I own lots of silly shiny little things, with very little money value. Actually I’m so much head in the clouds that I lose jewelery all the time!

In this post I will show you my favorites, and why. Some of them are gold, silver or even Swarovsky and others are cheap costume jewelery. But all of them represent one moment of my life.

Sweet 16 (October 2000)
The first item is a gold emerald ring I got from my grandmother when I turned 16. I remember going with her to the store. At the time I would have wanted something silly like CDs and posters and clothes, but she insisted she should buy me something that I will have forever.

University graduation (June 2008):
From my parents, a set of gold and a set of silver jewelery. From the silver one, I lost the earings…

From my grandparents, a pearl necklace:

Canterbury “girly” weekend (March 2009)
One of my friends used to live in Canterbury. My other friend and I visited her for one weekend “girly” get away.
I bought these from Past Times a shop that in the meantime went bust:

Venice trip (May 2009)
Ironically, the best part of our Venice holiday was the one day we spent in Murano. Unlike Venice, Murano is very quiet and you can enjoy strolling around the canals, shops and restaurants without feeling claustrophobic.
Oh, and the best meal was in Murano too!
This was Venice:

And Murano:

“Student” trip in Prague (March 2010)
In March 2010 I met my sister and her friends in Prague for a 4 day holiday. Everyone was a student but me!
On this trip I bought a Swarovsky set, which so far, is the most expensive jewelery I bought on my own.

What do I remember the most? The freezing cold and snow! This photo is on the famous Charles bridge:

Portobello Market (August 2011):
At the famous Notting Hill Portobello Market you can find lots of cute vintage things. Also, you can find a lot of tourist trap mass market overpriced things. I bought these earrings for 10-15£ and I wear them all the time:

Birthday in Paris (October 2011)
Last year for my birthday, we went to Paris for 10 days. It was a dream holiday. There could be no Paris without shopping, and there is a few things I brought back. That includes this necklace and earrings:

Me and Dan in Jadrin de Luxembourg:

Bonus:
My favorite memory ever is from my 26th birthday trip to Lisbon. We stayed there for 5 days, and one of the days we went outside Lisbon to Sintra. Sintra is a whole region that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen. Here I am at highest point in the region (around 500 m high) with a 3d view of the whole region, including the Sintra Pena Palace and the ocean. This is also the point furthest I’ve been from home (Bucharest, Romania):

Pena Palace viewed from that point:

Yes, it was end of October and around 25C (77F) outside.

Hope you enjoyed this post and let me know what your favorite memories are!

August and September 2012 Budget update

Since I set up my make up budget rules, I have been really good and kept spending within budget.
This time, for the months of August of September I spent a little over budget.
The budget for these two months was 108£, but I spent 122£.

The full list of products I bought:

Special thanks to my dear friend Judi from whom I bought the OPI and Dior!

And finally a quick NOTD with OPI Nein! Nein! Nein! Ok Fine! with He’s my surfing instructor on top. These two were made for each other!

Weekend shopping

If you have seen my very first blog post, you will probably know that I love unusual packaging.

This weekend I have been good, and didn’t do a dent into my make up budget. But, I came across two unusual items that I had to buy.

The first one, I saw at TK Maxx, and it is a soap box I bought for 8 £.
I am going to use it to store jewelery:

The second thing I bought, is an eye mask from Anatomicals (3.50 £).
They named it “Puffy the eye bag slayer”. I bought it because it has some very funny instructions, and they gave me a free bag as well!

Boots Clearance / Weekend Trip

This weekend I went to Italy for a short break (three days) with my boyfriend.
We left London at 6:30 AM, on Saturday morning and we got back at 11:30 PM on Monday night.

We had only hand luggage with us, so this time I had to really bring down the number of make up and skin care items. (See here what I packed last time for 4 days).

I already had in my mind a virtual list of what to take, including my Naked Palette and some skin care samples.
But on Friday, in my lunch break at Boots I see these on clearance:

I bought all of these for 6£:

  • No7 Age Defence Cleansing Balm (30 ml)
  • No7 Time Resisting Day cream (15ml)
  • No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Beauty Serum (5ml)
  • No7 (for men) Protect & Perfect Moisturising Eye cream (3ml)
  • No7 extreme length mascara (4.5 ml)
  • No7 Smoky Rose Quad
  • No7 High Shine lip gloss in Smile (8ml)
  • No7 40 Khaki Stay Perfect shadow (1.5 g)

Additionally I brought with me:

It might seem a lot but I fitted all the brushes and make up compacts into the pouch neatly. The skin care items and foundation went to a standard airport clear bag. The final result was something like this:

That’s all!

And that was it!

For three days it was exactly what I needed, plus at the airport I got free samples of Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum.

Finally, some images from Italy (sorry for the quality of some):

The shoes!

The chocolate

The buildings…

PS: I’ve been good and I didn’t shop too much!
How was your weekend?

Shopping: Lancome

There’s nothing better than some retail therapy after a hard long week at work!

Lancome has a pretty good offer at the moment. (Available at Boots and Fenwick from what I could see).
If you buy two products they give you £60 value free gift set. If you buy three products you also get two full-sized products.
I only got two products, that’s enough for now!

The first item I got is the new Teint Idole Ultra 24h foundation in 02 Lys Rose. The promise is that it’s very long wearing and needs no touch up.
I’ll have to wear it for a few days to test it out, but so far I like how it looks on my face.

The second item is the L’Absolu Nu lipstick in colour 102. It’s a nice formula, glides on really easy and seems to be pretty long wearing. It’s a bit sheer, but that’s what I wanted as it’s an ideal red for the office.

The gifts I got with my purchase are:

  • Hydra Zen Nueurocalm cream and Hydra Zen Nuit Neurocalm cream, both 15 ml
  • Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate, 5 ml
  • Hypnose mascara volume, 2 ml
  • Visionnaire Skin Corrector (wrinkle,s pores, evenness), 7 ml
  • Juicy tubes ultra shiny hydrating lip gloss, 7 ml
  • Galateis Douceur gentle cleansing fluid face & eyes, 50 ml
  • Trésor Midnight Rose eau de parfum, 5ml

As you can see, pretty good products to try out!

And now have a peek in my shopping bag:

Guerlain Meteorites Cruel Gardenia

After work today, I went to Boots on Oxford Street to buy a red lipstick.

I didn’t like anything, ended up at Selfridges. Of course, all the choice meant I couldn’t make up my mind!

Suddenly, out of nowhere I noticed that they are displaying photos of Cruel Gardenia on the Guerlain stand. I had no idea it’s sold in the UK.

Of course, who cared about the lipstick anymore?
I bought Cruel Gardenia, almost without a second thought!
Yes, I cringed a little at the price… The sales girl took a few minutes to find the box, which made me think: “OK, maybe it is sold out and I can save myself!”. It wasn’t sold out and now I’m the happy owner of a Cruel Gardenia.

I just can’t wait to actually use it!

And did I say it is B E U A T I F U L?
