Make up for acne

One of the reasons I started to be interested in make up was that I wanted to hide my acne.
Slowly, slowly I read a lot of information about acne, products for acne, cosmetic ingredients and make up I could use. So last year, I replaced all the products I used with more acne friendly ones.

I’m going to show you the products I used, they are not the only ones suitable for acne, but this is what worked for me.

1) Skincare

Last year, I slowly replaced all my skin care items. I started to pay more attention to cosmetic ingredients, and I learned about irritants and started to avoid them.
Be aware that if products are advertised as “oil free”, “non comedogeninc” or anything like that there is no guarantee it’s going to be good for your skin. Do your research before you buy.
Make sure you use a good moisturizer, even if you have acne. Your skin still needs to be hydrated!

One thing that I learned only last year is that SPF is essential and it has to be worn every day (rain, shine, clouds – no matter what).
There are two important reasons for this: UV rays damage the skin and speed up the aging process. The second reason is that UV rays aggravate acne.
You can either buy a moisturizer with SPF and apply it as part of your skin care routine, or you can get a primer with SPF. I prefer the second option, but that is only personal choice.
I used the Clinique City Block SPF 40 for this. It also acts as a primer, so I could skip a step.

I went for a medium coverage light foundation. There are many, many options on the market, so make sure you try out as many as you can before you buy.
I do not like “fighting” with the foundation while I apply it, so I went for a liquid medium coverage foundation.
The foundation I chose was the Clinique Even Better foundation.

This is they key of make up for acne. Once you have applied the base – the foundation, the best way to hide those imperfections is to go over with concealer over them.
I used the heavy coverage Vichy Dermabled stick foundation for this.

5)Setting powder

As setting powder I used the Clinique Redness Solution loose powder. I chose this one because I wanted to cancel out skin redness.

6)Touch ups:

Because I had really oily skin I had to touch up every 3-4 hours or more. I used the Superdrug blotting papers and the Maybelline Dream Matte compact powder.

Finally, here’s me talking about all of these:
